Editing and Proofreading

What I do...

I provide proofreading and editing services for students, academics, and authors in general. I proofread your essay, journal manuscript, master's thesis, dissertation, book, proposal, and whatever else you would like to have professionally edited before you submit or publish. I make sure your work has no grammatical errors or spelling mistakes, and that your ideas are expressed clearly.

I proofread and edit your document using the "track changes" function that comes with Microsoft Word. Any corrections I make are listed in the right hand margin of your document. This process allows you to accept or reject suggested changes. You will receive two files: one called "clean version" (showing the final edited text), and one called "with visible edits" (showing all my suggestions).

I have been proofreading and editing since 2001 in a variety of academic and nonacademic venues:

journals

book publishers

(fiction and nonfiction)

student submissions

How the process works...

1. Send your finished work to me as a Microsoft Word attachment. Name your file like this:

Lastname.Firstname.today'sdate.doc Sample date: 2009.05.31 for May 31, 2009

If you send more than one document on the same day, number them like this:

Lastname.Firstname.today'sdate.1.doc Lastname.Firstname.today'sdate.2.doc

2. In your email message, tell me your

deadline

3. Write "copyedit" or "proofread" in the subject line.

4. Send your message and attachment(s) to:

kelley@kindredhouse.net

How much it costs...

You can determine your cost quickly and simply before submitting your document!

Use the "Tools" function from your toolbar to access "Word Count."  Count all the words, including everything from title to footnotes or endnotes.

Calculate 0.015 cents per word, including footnotes or endnotes, to determine the total cost of the editing service. For proofreading your final copies, calculate 0.009 cents per word, including footnotes or endnotes.

Payment is made with credit card or direct deposit through PayPal. You will receive an invoice and instructions through your e-mail account.
